Moving can undoubtedly be a complicated
and overwhelming process. For a variety of reasons —
be it the size of your move, a busy job, a busy family, or
a combination of all three — hiring professional movers
can be a lifesaver. But just what do you get when you decide
to work with a professional mover? Here, we’ll go over
the many different services that professional movers offer,
so that you can be aware of what might be offered when you’re
deciding which mover to work with.
Keep in mind that not all movers offer all of the services
below. When you’re talking with a mover and trying to
decide who you should work with, check with the consultant
you’re speaking to about what services are offered and
what services will be best for your job specifically.
Consultation Services
Many movers will visit your home to evaluate your moving needs,
and afterwards will prepare a written proposal free of charge.
It’s a good idea to make this happen where possible.
If a moving company gives you an estimate over the phone sight
unseen, it may be a sign that they’re not terribly experienced.
An experienced mover knows that they need to actually see
what’s to be moved in order to truly evaluate the situation.
Packing Services
Full service moving companies will offer packing service,
in which moving professionals will actually come into your
home and will move your belongings for you. High end moving
companies will offer specialized packing services for sensitive
items such as musical instruments, antiques, collectibles,
and fine art. If you have any sensitive items that need to
be moved, you’ll want to work with a company that has
professionals trained specifically in moving those items.
Not every piano player knows how to move a harp. It’s
a good idea to work with someone specifically trained in what
you need.
Unpacking Services
With packing, comes unpacking. Again, high end moving companies
offer this service for both residential and commercial moves.
If unpacking is part of your moving package, your belongings
will be unpacked and placed in their new place in your new
home or office. This is particularly helpful for office moves
where an interruption of work is undesirable.
Transportation of Large Belongings
If you are traveling a great distance, some moving companies
will work with you on coordinating moving your larger items,
such as cars or boats. Some companies will also move your
pets, which is particularly helpful with an international
move where there are formalities involved with moving a pet.
Storage
Many moving companies have their own storage facilities in
which they can keep your belongings during a move should you
have time between when you need to vacate one space and when
you can get in another space. Some storage facilities will
even be temperature controlled, meaning they are appropriate
for more sensitive items such as musical instruments, fine
art, and antiques.
Always be sure to interview several moving companies before
choosing one so that you can get a sense of their levels of
professionalism and offered services. |
